This page is for my namesakes.

The other day I searched long and hard for a copy of the Hargaden Coat of Arms online but to no avail. So I took the night off and did what I considered to be the next best thing: I took out my ruler, opened up Photoshop and did my best to draw it. So what you see above is the shield element of the coat of arms. The helm and so on may follow at a later date. Just for reference, the crest is of a bird atop a snake.
The Hargaden motto is Favente Deo Supero, which roughly translates from Latin as “With God’s favour, I conquer.”
Most Hargadens seem to have originated from Co. Leitrim in Ireland and direct descendents of Leitrim Hargadens have spread to Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Cork. Outside of Ireland, I personally know Hargadens can be found in England, Wales, Connecticut, California, and New Zealand.
The origin of the name is not certain. Some believe Hargaden is a Viking name, having invaded Ireland a thousand years ago and somehow settled in Leitrim. Other think the name is Celtic, with its Irish equivalent Ó Argadáin quite similar to the Irish word for money. Perhaps we were bankers? (It could explain my interest in economics?)
Anyway, enough of that. Having stumbled upon this domain quite luckily, I think it’s only fair I share some of it. Thus if you’re a Hargaden and would like to get an @hargaden.com email address I shall duly oblige. Just send me an email via the Contact page.
